OUR FOCUS, DEVELOPMENT and RESULTS
At Orleans we have very clear planning in place to move our school forward. Our School Development Plan lists our key objectives on a rolling three year programme to ensure that our areas for development are met to a high standard. We review our School Development Plan each term to ensure we are moving forward to reach our end of year goals. We use data from ASP to analyse the results of our Key Stage One and Two end of year assessments to help us plan for the following year. We have detailed below our End of Key Stage data and Phonics Screening results. As a school we also use the results of surveys we have carried out with parents and children to inform our forward planning.
ANALYSE SCHOOL PERFORMANCE (ASP)
The Department for Education has provided schools with a site called ANALYSE SCHOOL PERFORMANCE (ASP). This allows us to drill down into our results including Key Stage One and Key Stage Two SATS as well as the results of our phonics screening. We have used this as part of our self evaluation to guide us in our areas of strength and areas we need to focus on.
Academic Results

Year 1 Phonic Screening Check
‘The Phonics Screening Check is a short ‘light touch’ assessment to confirm whether individual pupils have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard. It will identify the children who need help and support with their reading skills. Children will retake if they did not reach the required level.’ (DFE 2011)

The Phonic Screening test measures the ability children’s ability to use phonological knowledge to read real and made up words. Phonological knowledge is an awareness of the sound structure of the language and how sounds are represented by letters. This knowledge, and the ability to apply it, is seen as a key early reading skills. Two key areas of learning are blending (putting identified sounds together) and segmenting (being able to split a word up by identifying the different sounds within it). These results show that pupils at Orleans have made rapid progress by the end of Year 1.
