Pupil Premium and Catch-Up Premium

PUPIL PREMIUM

Pupil Premium is a government grant allocated to schools via the local authority for the support of pupils from families who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals, Looked After Children or vulnerable children.  This funding stream, first available in the 2012-2013 financial year, is given as a way to address the current underlying equalities between these groups of children and their peers.  It specifically targets disadvantage and must reach the pupils who need this additional support the most.  It is allocated annually and is clearly identifiable.

To ensure this additional funding has a positive impact on the learners who need it most, we assess which additional provisions should be made for our individual pupils, to continue to ensure all our pupils are supported to achieve their full potential.

The percentage of pupils at Orleans Primary School in receipt of the pupil premium grant is 6%. This is lower than  the national average (21%).  We have strong links with our local secondary schools to ensure that transition is smooth for our most vulnerable pupils. Our Pupil Premium Strategy contains information about how we aim to advance equality of opportunity for these pupils throughout their school life.

‘At Orleans Primary School we aim to provide a happy, stimulating and secure community for every child.  This, in conjunction with a rich and challenging learning experience, will ensure that all children reach their full potential, both emotionally and physically, and are completely prepared to take their place on our diverse world’. CATCH -UP PREMIUM

Taken from the DFE Website (2020-2021)

Children and young people across the country have experienced unprecedented disruption to their education as a result of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Those from the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds will be among those hardest hit.  The aggregate impact of lost time in education will be substantial, and the scale of our response must match the scale of the challenge.

We know that we have the professional knowledge and expertise in the education system to ensure that children and young people recover and get back on track.  Returning to normal educational routines as quickly as possible will be critical to our national recovery, and the Government intends for schools and colleges to fully open in September.

The Government has announced £1billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up.  This includes a one-off universal £650 million catch-up premium for the 2020-2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time.

Schools' allocations will be calculated on a per pupil basis, providing each mainstream school with a total of £80 for each pupil in years reception through to 11 for the 2020-2021 academic year.
