In KS1, children learn about the mechanics of moving parts in a fun, practical way and create cards and vehicles with support. These skills then progress in KS2 where children incorporate their knowledge of electricity and learn to design and make something that will shine light. In Y6 this is progressed further when children will be introduced to computer control. The focus the unit ‘Fairgrounds’ is to design and make a model of a fairground ride.

Throughout both Key Stages, children also learn about the importance of eating healthy food and make a variety of snacks and dishes. Textiles is also a key aspect of Design and Technology- skills progress from ‘Weaving’ in Y1 to in Y6 where children learn about making accurate patterns and detailed working drawings. They develop making and finishing skills to enhance the quality of their clothes.
